Sanktuary designs

Our core values always lies in function over looks hence the moto “chrome don’t get you home”. Focusing on the mechanics and usability of the vehicles rather then showability. Most of the projects you’ll see on the page are daily driven vehicles and have been tried and tested from moderate to extreme conditions. Many being total ground up builds from boxes of bits in time frames that aren’t five or six years for the vehicles to hit the roads.

That being said doesn’t mean we are shy of doing customization and fabrication work. We mainly focus on vintage and custom motorcycles now. Although will consider work on classic cars depending on what is required. When viewing our past projects you’ll see our humble beginings of building motors out on a drive to now our very own workshop tailored for the work we do.

Simon’s interest in motocyles started at a very young age, after being told to stay away from the older boys in the neighbourhood who had bikes, he took it upon himself to bring his own home - a Suzuki GS 50 scooter, when he was only 11! That was in 1982, after he got it going he decided it wasn’t fast enough and by 1983 he had owned a Suzuki GT185 and a DT 175MX both a classics in their own rights nowadays.

At 17 the dirt Oval at local track beckoned him, building the cars himself that he competed in….

After that he did an informal apprenticeship at a local HGV garage, servicing and maintaining Heavy Goods Vehicles. Wanting a change of scenery Simon went into the world of building, first roofing, then groundwork and hard landscapes. He quickly rose to the position of foreman, and eventually ran his own groundwork firm, which included servicing his own 7.5 ton lorry and 3.5 ton excavater!

Then it was back to the garages- first working on the buses, then running a workshop for a local waste company, which included maintaining and fabrication of skips, lorries and dustcarts. Nowadays Simon fills his time building Rat Rods and bikes, with the odd speedboat thrown into the mix…
