Simon’s interest in motocyles started at a very young age, after being told to stay away from the older boys in the neighbourhood who had bikes, he took it upon himself to bring his own home - a Suzuki GS 50 scooter, when he was only 11! That was in 1982, after he got it going he decided it wasn’t fast enough and by 1983 he had owned a Suzuki GT185 and a DT 175MX both a classics in their own rights nowadays.
At 17 the dirt Oval at local track beckoned him, building the cars himself that he competed in….
After that he did an informal apprenticeship at a local HGV garage, servicing and maintaining Heavy Goods Vehicles. Wanting a change of scenery Simon went into the world of building, first roofing, then groundwork and hard landscapes. He quickly rose to the position of foreman, and eventually ran his own groundwork firm, which included servicing his own 7.5 ton lorry and 3.5 ton excavater!
Then it was back to the garages- first working on the buses, then running a workshop for a local waste company, which included maintaining and fabrication of skips, lorries and dustcarts. Nowadays Simon fills his time building Rat Rods and bikes, with the odd speedboat thrown into the mix…
